Update From the Drydocks - August 5th, 2021
Obviously, with my surgery last month and having been out of the shop for about 5 weeks, not a massive amount of progress to share, but now that I'm back in the shop full-time, we're getting back into the swing of things. Here are a few updates from the last few days:
DIVING DEEP - The definitive beginner's guide to RC submarines
I'm SO excited to announce that my new book, "Diving Deep" is now available for purchase! This is a fully-illustrated, 187 page primer on building and operating a remote controlled submarine, written with the beginner in mind (though there is definitely stuff in there for everyone!)
I'm holding the first print copy in my hand and I have 20 more enroute. The good news is that you have LOTS of ways to order. I have a product page up on my site now, and you can order direct from there. You can also visit my book's order page on Outskirts Press where you can order hard copy, or get the link to purchase from Amazon or Barnes and Noble. Amazon Kindle edition coming soon!
New 300 Series Subdrivers Nearing Completion
The prototype cylinder is nearing completion and we had a VERY successful test yesterday of our new snorkel valve that will allow full static diving as an option for those wanting that feature (silly, silly people). Once the prototype is complete and tested, I'll have a quick overview video to tease you, then I begin work on fully detailed buildup and maintenance instructions and the product will be open for purchase. That means that I'll also be creating full starter kit packages for suitable boats once again as well. As of right now, I'm hoping to have the product ready for ordering by the beginning of Sept, with first orders going out shortly thereafter. They will be available in kit form at a great price, or in fully assembled and tested form with a significant premium added to the price (because I am a firm believer that everyone should know their cylinders inside and out and you can't do that when you get it handed to you).
1/48 XXI on the bench
So close on this one. Now that I'm back, we hope to have this in the water for trimming late this week or early next. The same buyer also has a gorgeous Upholder queued up, so these will have their maiden voyages at the same time. Stay tuned for updates and video soon!
3D files for 1/96 Russian Alfa are now live!
Randy comes through again!
The photo above shows the prototype hull being printed on my big delta 3D printer. The new files for a 33" Russian Alfa are now posted and available for download. This is an easy build and the boat is an absolute rocket in terms of speed in the pond. Check out the product page and order yours today!
Another Huge Type 212 hull in the works
1/30 scale is no joke and this boat is going to be a real head-turner at the pond when completed. The new layup methodology yields a two-part hull with integrated lip for latching and strength. Stay tuned for more update pics soon!
seal delivery vehicle kit coming soon!
Darrin Hattaway originally mastered this kit, and we're happy to say that we've completed molding the kit and are working on production of the prototype. This kit will be a great size for the pool or small pond and will offer a lot of options for the builder to create a custom control system. I don't think there will be any need for a ballast system, so a 3 channel radio will be all you'll need to enjoy this kit as your go-to boat for quick excursions or impressing friends and family in the pool.
