A virtual exploration of the original Nautilus, accompanied by 3D renders produced by the author according to Verne's descriptions in his Novel, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

 

Verisimilitude is important , and the author has taken care to reproduce the dimensions, proportions and layout of the Nautilus as Verne related, including quotes from his novel as source references. The book illustrates subsystems, auxiliary equipment and other features of interest in the Nautilus.

  • Frank Chase

    Born in Eugene, Oregon in 1952, Frank's childhood interests were strongly influenced by his parents, one an artist who worked with pastels and oils, and the other a musician and scholar. Learning to read at home at the age of four, Frank started his literary pursuits with the Harvard Classics, Grimm's Fairy tales, Hans Christian Anderson, Dickens, and the History of Man by Will and Ariel Durant...because that was what was in the house library.

    Frank won a scholarship in 1969 from General motors for his submission of a futuristic Automobile design in the Craftmans' Guild Competition, and applied it towards the pursuit of a music performance degree from the University of Oregon.

    From 1970 through 1974, Frank went to College, worked at the USPS, and began experimenting with woodworking / Furniture design.

    Chase Design Studios was established in 1975, and Frank won many awards for design excellence in juried shows throughout the Pacific Northwest from 1977 through 1988.

    In 1989 Frank re-located his residence and workshop to Hawaii, where he became the Executive director of the Big Island Wood Guild in 1994, an elected position he held off and on until 2004. His participation in the annual Guild woodshows from 1993 through 2012 garnered him a total of 29 First place awards in 3 different categories.

    Some of Franks 'Hobbies' are building precision instruments, Photography, Kinetic sculptures, clock-making, PCP airgun design and creating '3-d' computer-generated images and video, studying Egyptian archeaology and Writing.

    His work modeling the interior and exterior features of Jules Verne's Nautilus was featured in the Novi-Sad Verne 100th anniversary Exhibition of 2005, forming the core of a traveling display featuring the Nautilus that was shown throughout central Europe.

    In 2006 Frank took the position of Lead Art Consultant at the ISEC, (International Space Elevator Consortium) creating imagery for use in scientific white papers, journal illustrations, conference posters and book covers published by the ISEC, NASA and the IASS related to the design and pursuit of Space Elevators.

    Frank currently resides in Kamuela on the Big Island.
